Award-Winning City-Builder Life Below Unveils New Trailer Beneath The Waves

The unique city builder about building an underwater ecosystem shares new information! Check out Life Below as its release draws close to breaking the waves!

Developed by Kasedo Games and Megapop, Life Below is a city builder is a unique take on the city builder genre. Rather than constructing a mega city or village, you instead create an undersea reef under the waves. You support the lives of a variety of sea life that call your underwater ecosystem home.

Despite not releasing yet, Life Below has already won awards for its unique premise. It would be awarded during the 2025 Unity Awards in the Social Impact category. This award was due to the game’s themes on protecting and fostering nature, which impacted the judges as being very socially conscious.

REEFS, SEALIFE, AND MAINTAINING AN ECOSYSTEM

Life Below takes place on a near future earth, where you take responsibility over the development of a reef. Just like in the average city builder, your goal is to grow and expand the reef while bringing in new residents. However, these residents aren’t humans, but rather a variety of different undersea life.

The sea life that you bring in come in many different shapes and sizes, each one having their own of needs. Creatures settled in are viewable through the Wildlife View, letting you see their lives in their biomes. Settling them isn’t easy though, and you will need to take into account multiple hazards and obstacles to care for your reef.

Different biomes and zones have different acidity and temperatures that must be taken into account as you grow your reef. On top of this, hazards can appear, both natural like heatwaves, and unnatural like oil spills. No matter what appears, the life that you cultivate requires a great deal of care and love to truly flourish.

KEY FEATURES OF THIS UNDERSEA CITY BUILDER

  • Build up, rebuild, and expand your underwater reef to house a variety of sea life.
  • Follow the different creatures that call your habitat home with the Wildlife View.
  • Take on different ecosystems and biomes that have their own challenges to overcome for life to thrive.
  • Handle different hazards both natural and unnatural that threaten the life of your home.

Life Below is expected to release sometime in 2026. It will launch on PC through Steam, which you can visit to wishlist. You can also discuss the Life Below on the PopGeeks Video Game Forum!

I never thought Iโ€™d care this much about building a game world underwater, but Life Below has me hooked just from the trailer. I love the idea of managing a reef and all the different creatures, and it actually sounds relaxing, not stressful. Seeing the Wildlife View where you can watch fish and other sea life go about their day feels really immersive. Iโ€™m also curious about how the hazards work, like oil spills or heatwaves, because that adds a bit of challenge without making it overwhelming. Iโ€™ve played other city builders, but this one feels like itโ€™s really doing something new by focusing on the environment. I can already imagine myself spending hours just adjusting conditions to keep everyone happy and exploring different biomes. It seems like a game that could teach a lot about ecology in a fun way, which I really appreciate. Canโ€™t wait to try it when it comes out on Steam.

Iโ€™m not usually into city builders, but the concept of an underwater ecosystem is really intriguing. Life Below looks like it combines strategy with some level of care-taking, and I like that mix. The Wildlife View seems like a neat way to connect with the creatures, not just numbers and buildings. It feels like it could be calming to watch a reef grow and flourish under your management. I also like that itโ€™s socially conscious, focusing on protecting nature. That gives the game more meaning than just scoring points or expanding endlessly. The hazards like oil spills make it feel realistic too, because keeping an ecosystem alive isnโ€™t easy. Honestly, Iโ€™m adding this to my wishlist immediately, and Iโ€™m excited to see how deep the gameplay goes.

This looks seriously relaxing. I love games where you build something peaceful instead of constant war or zombies. Building a reef and watching fish swim around while managing the water temperature and avoiding oil spills sounds therapeutic. The Wildlife View thing is cool too, like actually seeing how your little ecosystem is doing instead of just numbers on a screen. Hope they keep the difficulty balanced so it doesn't turn into frustration simulator. Definitely adding to my wishlist.

Finally a city builder that isn't another medieval village or dystopian slum. Underwater reef with actual sea creatures having needs? That's fresh. The award for social impact makes sense, climate stuff is everywhere now and games like this can make people think without being preachy. Trailer gave me good vibes, art style is clean. Just please don't make it too grindy with resources. 2026 can't come soon enough.

This is the kind of game I need right now. My brain is fried from work, I want something calm where I place coral, add fish, watch them happy. No timers, no combat, just ecosystem management. The near-future setting is smart too, ties into real ocean issues without being in-your-face. Steam page already wishlisted, devs if you're reading please add controller support.
