Leaked Footage Shows Off GoldenEye 007 XBLA Remake
GoldenEye 007 is one of the few titles in history that has been both critically acclaimed and hailed as a game changing moment for the industry, as it proved to be one of the most influential console first-person shooters of all time.
This has led to calls from fans over the years to have the classic Nintendo 64 game remastered for modern consoles. Although there was clearly demand for such a release, the situation was complicated by the fact that Activision owned the rights to the franchise, Rare was now owned by Microsoft, and the game had been published and released on a Nintendo console originally.
However, a HD remaster being developed for the Xbox Live Arcade was in the works and footage from the game has finally made its way onto YouTube via the channel Rare Thief.
The video shows that the remaster would have allowed players to switch between classic graphics and the upgraded visuals, much like in the remastered Halo titles, and would have featured a framerate of 60fps, new multiplayer options and online features. It was ultimately cancelled due to the issues around the rights for the game.
