♦ STORYLINE:
“Klara and the Sun” is set in a future reshaped by genetic engineering and rigid social stratification. Klara (played by Jenna Ortega) is an AF (Artificial Friend) designed to provide companionship to lonely teenagers. Though technologically advanced, Klara is considered obsolete compared to newer models. So she was sold at a discounted price. However, her curiosity, empathy, and unwavering loyalty set her apart in ways no one expects.
Klara is purchased to accompany Josie (played by Mia Tharia), a chronically ill girl whose mother struggles to maintain stability in a world fractured by loss and societal pressure. Josie’s illness and the family’s grief create an emotional void that Klara attempts to fill. The AF observes human behavior with a blend of innocence and analytical precision. As Klara becomes more integrated into the household, she begins to understand the complexities of love, sacrifice, and the fragile bonds that hold families together.
Even though she’s considered obsolete, Klara hopes to make a connection, not only with Josie but with the entire family. However, she hears those disappointing words: You’re not the droid we’re looking for, honey.”
Oh no! How can Klara convince the family that she’s perfect for them?
