Jellystone! Reintroducing Hanna Barbera cartoon icons to new generation
Jellystone! Trailer is here:
Jellystone! is an animated series starring quintessential Hanna-Barbera characters. Hanna-Barbera uses to be the King of Saturday morning. Their characters had been a part of the childhood of gen-x and baby boomers. Somehow, they are also familiar to some older millennials because of syndication. My early childhood has memories of watching reruns of some classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons. Sadly the majority of their titles became irrelevant. Only a few of them are timeless enough to transcend. Scooby-doo is the most successful among their titles.
Most of their titles didn’t age well for the new era. It’s very nostalgic to see these characters again because this time it’s not a Robot chicken parody. This cartoon stars Yogi Bear, Boo Boo, and Cindy bear. For the modern Audience, The art style is now Calarts which is the standard of modern American cartoons. The new voice actors can capture the voices and personalities of their characters. So even if they look different, these voices, give you familiarity. Yogi is now shorter looking and has a different face, but he becomes familiar once he opens his mouth. Unlike the abomination Thundercats Go!, Calarts worked for Jellystone!
Jellystone! is like a crossover easter egg because you will recognize the Hanna-Barbera characters here. Top Cat, Jabberjaw, Magilla Gorilla, Johnny Quest, and Huckleberry hound are also on this mega-crossover.
The only franchises that did not make this series are The Flintstones, The Jetsons, The Smurfs, and Scooby-doo. I believe those titles didn’t make it because they are still strong enough to be standalone. Scooby-doo remained relevant throughout the years. Jellystone! will be part of the HBO Max lineup.
For every reboot, there will always be a legion of angry old-school fans. On the other hand, these characters are revitalized. This can bridge generations. Who knows it may inspire the younger ones to watch the classic.
