Invader Zim Returns to Rain Doom on His Enemies with New Comic Book Revival
Earthlings will have to prepare to have some doom rained down upon their filthy heads because a certain invader is back to wreak havoc. Oni Press has officially announced that the comic publisher will work with Nickelodeon and Johnen Vasquez for a new ongoing comic series based on the acclaimed animated series Invader Zim. Invader Zim only ran for two seasons with about 27 episodes for Nickelodeon, but the show has achieved legendary cult status with fans. The new comic will continue the story of Zim’s ongoing invasion of Earth with his robot sidekick GIR, along with new adventures from Zim’s archenemy Dib and his sister Gaz.
The first issue in the series is due out this summer on July 1. Oni Press Editor in Chief James Lucas Jones commented on the comic revival: “All of us at Oni Press are elated to be bringing the first new Invader Zim stories in years to a rabid fanbase. Getting to tell those tales with folks from the show like Jhonen, Aaron Alexovich, Eric Trueheart, and Rikki Simons just makes it all the more sweet.
Zim creator Jhonen Vasquez added: “I’m always confused when people say how much they miss Invader Zim because the show never stopped running in my head, and then I remember everyone else isn’t in my head. I try to imagine the world for all those people who don’t know what Zim’s been up to since the show went off the air and it makes me shudder. How can people live that way? Hopefully this comic helps make the world a better place.”
The show was famous for Vasquez’s dark brand of humor and infinitely quotable and classic dialogue. You can check out an image of promotional artwork for the comic series below:
