IDW Announces Tails 30th Anniversary Special
Sonic got a gigantic celebratory party when he turned 30 last year, as everyone expected he would. His faithful sidekick, however, was introduced a year later and rarely ever gets any recognition. Would Tails get his own party, after everything he’s done for Sonic? IDW finally decided to answer “YES” to that question and put together the ultimate tribute to everyone’s favorite Player 2.
Tails’ 30th Anniversary Special, coming this fall, will feature a hefty 30-page story by longtime Sonic scribe Ian Flynn. Aaron Hammerstrom will provide the art and Reggie Graham will color things in.
“I had a blast with last year’s Sonic 30th Anniversary story, which was a celebration of the Classic Sonic cast,” says Flynn. “This time around I wanted to do something a little more restrained and focused so we could properly celebrate Tails, his courage, and his intellect. That said, you know I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to mine the Sonic series history for the villains!”
What the story is about has yet to be revealed, but the art (yet to be finalized) depicts Sonic and Tails on what clearly is Flickies Island from Sonic 3D Blast. That is curious, as Tails wasn’t even in that game.
“Tails was my favorite character growing up and he’s still incredibly important to me, so I’m glad to be able to help put him back in the spotlight for a bit. It’s so exciting to bring back these weird, obscure characters along with him, too! I think they’re gonna be a lot of fun!” says Hammerstrom.
Look for Tails 30th Anniversary Special in comic shops and retailers this November.

Finally the sidekick will get to shine in a comic of his own! I wonder if Knuckles, Amy and Shadow will have theirs too.

He is the cutest character in the whole Sonic Franchise ever. He inspired me to get a fox as a pet. We need more games that demonstrate how good he is on his own because he is.

Miles don’t have his own game yet. Luigi already got his Spin off and so does Princess Peach. Sonic’s Sidekick needs to have their own games too.
