Bandai Namco Games has officially announced that two installments of the God Eater franchise, God Eater: Resurrection and God Eater 2: Rage Burst, are going to receive their first-ever releases in the western hemisphere in North America, South America and Europe sometime next year. Both games are slated for release on the PlayStation 4, PS Vita and Windows PC via Steam.
The God Eater games are action RPGs with an intriguing post-apocalyptic storyline. In the early 2050s, unknown life forms called “Oracle cells” evolve into deadly lifeforms called Aragami. These violent creatures act like apex predators to the human race and have begun an uncontrolled consumption of all life on Earth. These creatures have a ravenous appetite and remarkably adaptability, making them very hard to kill. Their arrival causes the collapse of urban civilization, and humanity is on the brink of extinction.
The last hope for humanity is the God Eaters, human soldiers who are able to wield advanced weapons called “God Arcs,” living weapons made out of the Oracle cells. In Resurrection and Rage Burst, players take the role of a God Eater for the Fenrir Organization.
The franchise was later adapted into an anime series from Ufotable, and the show is currently available for streaming on Daisuki. You can check out the announcement trailer for the God Eater games’ western release in the player below.
This is a good move by Bandai Namco. Most of my knowledge of this franchise comes from the anime series, but that definitely piques my interest for these games, for which the show is based, getting an American release. The God Eater franchise has a strong, intriguing premise and offers a nice twist to the post-apocalyptic, sci-fi premise. Hopefully this move will be successful and widen the fanbase of the God Eater franchise. Both of the aforementioned games are due out for their release in the US, South America and Europe in summer 2016.
