Ghost In the Shell Tabletop Game Coming Soon

Mana Project Studio and Don’t Panic Games have produced several different tabletop games based on anime. Their resume includes games based around Attack On Titan, Naruto, Tokyo Ghoul and, most recently, Cowboy Bebop. Now they’re gearing up to bring yet another iconic anime property to your table: Ghost In The Shell.

The Ghost In The Shell Roleplaying Game will be set in the ARISE era (which in the anime was the year 2027 — this will be unchanged). The game is built on a customized Forged in the Dark system that lets you create elite Public Security Section agents, enhance their cyberware, and dive into high-stakes missions against various tech-enhanced enemies. “You’re no longer a spectator,” says Mana Project. “You’re part of the team: terrorism, corruption, false memories. Newport City is waiting for you: neon lights, political corruption, cyber-bodies breaking like shells. Are you ready to risk everything?”

  • 🦾 Powered by Forged in the Dark, adapted to balance Ghost (mind) and Shell (body)
  • ⚡ High-stakes missions where failure could expose your own Public Security Section
  • 👁️ Philosophy, intrigue, and action all at the same table

It’s too early to know what Mana Project Studio and Don’t Panic plan to charge for tiers in this campaign, but we do know there will be four items: the Standard Corebook, the Deluxe Corebook, the Adventure Book, and the Quickstart Guide. While you’re waiting for the campaign to start, you can download the Quickstart Guide and digitally thumb through its pages by going to the prelaunch site.

The Ghost In The Shell Roleplaying Game will launch its campaign November 4.

This feels like a natural step after their Cowboy Bebop game. Both have strong themes of technology and morality. What I find fascinating here is the focus on corruption and false memories. If done right, this could feel like a detective story mixed with sci-fi horror. I will definitely check the Quickstart as soon as it is out.

The Forged in the Dark system is flexible, so I trust they can make it fit Ghost in the Shell. What interests me most is how they will connect Ghost (mind) and Shell (body) in gameplay terms. It could open new ways to play with risk, trauma, and identity. I want to see if they let players transfer consciousness or upgrade bodies.

I am curious how much player freedom they will allow. In Ghost in the Shell, characters often question authority and systems. I hope the game encourages rebellion and critical thinking, not just mission completion. If they include political choices and moral tests, it will stand out from other anime RPGs.

The Quickstart Guide being available early is smart marketing. It lets people see the rules before the campaign even begins.

I hope they include options for solo play or smaller groups. Not everyone has a consistent gaming circle. A world like Ghost in the Shell would be great for solo missions, hacking sequences, or AI-based storytelling tools. It could expand the audience beyond traditional tabletop fans.
