Get Ready For A Shock: Static Returns In New Titans #38

Dwayne MacDuffie’s most famous addition to the DC Universe made his surprise return at the end of the DC KO event recently. Folowing that, Static played a major part in New History of the DC Universe: The Dakota Incident, and soon he’ll take his first starring role in a long time in the pages of New Titans. If all you know about Static is the Kids WB cartoon from two decades ago, you have a lot of history to catch up on.

Announced over the weekend, Issue 38 of New Titans will follow Virgil Hawkins (aka Static) as he learns of trouble brewing in the Amazon rainforests of Brazil. Static meets up with Jon Kent at Mount Titans, just as an emissary from Wonder Girl’s tribe arrives seeking Yara Flor’s help against a rising force in the jungle. Note that DC is keeping it vague as to what the source of trouble is. Guess that info is for paying customers only.

“With a new crisis rising in the Amazon and the Titans pushed to their limits, Static’s arrival marks the spark that will drive the team into its most challenging mission yet,” says DC. “His return sets the stage for a high-stakes arc that reshapes the Titans’ path and reintroduces one of DC’s most electrifying heroes to the center of the action.”

The book will not suddenly be All Static All The Time: a special four-page prelude will be included in the back of the previous issue, New Titans #37. The story will bridge the events of The Kids Are All Fight and The Dakota Incident, and set up the events of issue #38. For those who want to know more, a second printing of The Dakota Incident was sent to comics shops on April 22.

New Titans #38 is written by Tate Brombal with art by Sami Basri, featuring a main cover by Taurin Clarke and variant covers by Dike Ruan and Lucas Meyer, along with a foil variant by Dike Ruan. Look for it starting August 19, 2026.
