In case you missed the Super Bowl last night (I hope you got it on DVR, it was a terrific game), one of the numerous trailers that appeared during the first quarter was for Marvel’s Infinity War Part 1. For those unfamiliar with comic book lore, the alien despot Thanos is seeking out all six Infinity Stones so he can install them on a gauntlet, which he will then put on his left hand and, through its power, become an unstoppable god. This would be bad.
It took every superhero in the known universe to stop him in the comics, and in the movies, it still does. Think of every character that’s been introduced so far in Marvel movies. They’re all here, and somehow, they all manage to make appearances in just thirty seconds. Check it out:
Some of the newer make more of an impact: Captain America, who lost his shield during the events of Civil War, now has a new Wakandan weapon courtesy of his new pal Black Panther. We didn’t see a new hammer for Thor but maybe he should give the King a call. Doctor Strange is helping Iron Man stand a chance against supernatural enemies by spell-ifying his energy blasts. Spider-Man is here, and strangely, he’s taking off his mask while riding a rocket into space, which is a surefire way to die. But he’s still a rookie.
Avengers: Infinity War, which is just part 1 of a two-part event, will premiere May 4 in theaters.
