Presenting The Game Master’s Deck of Wild Magic and Mischief, a new volume of the bestselling Game Master Series that utilizes Earl’s mastery of D&D arcana to introduce 40 crazy new wild magic effects. The boxed deck set is designed to be fully 5E compatible.
The cards in Wild Magic and Mischief are brought to life by Tim Foley, the illustrator behind the earlier Game Master Series entry, the Boons and Banes deck. Foley is widely recognized for his detailed, expressive linework featured in the bestselling Who Was? biography series and fantasy titles like Cooking for Wizards, Warriors and Dragons. His distinct style adds depth and charm to each card, making the chaotic magical effects as visually compelling as they are game-altering. Foley’s return to the Game Master Series gives the new deck a sense of continuity with Boons and Banes, further establishing the line as a creative and artistic force in tabletop roleplaying accessories.

The boxed deck set comes with forty tarot-styled cards illustrated by Foley that depict each wild magic effect, in living color, as well as an 88-page companion guide for more detailed explanations. The GM can lay the cards down at will to spice up a battle, or the crew can draw the cards from a random deck for some real unpredictability.
While Wild Magic and Mischief is Earl’s first boxed deck project, he is also credited as a contributor to the upcoming Game Master’s Handbook of Collaborative Campaign Design, scheduled for release October 7, 2025. This new handbook, authored by Jonah and Tristan Fishel, focuses on guiding Game Masters through the process of co-creating emergent narratives and worlds with their players.
Tim Foley collaborated with Ginny Di on an earlier Game Masters volume, Boons And Banes. The boxed deck set contained twenty new cards illustrating powerful abilities (the boons) and twenty more introducing dangerous obstacles (the banes). While structured similarly as a card-and-guidebook combo, Wild Magic and Mischief offers a different gameplay experience, focusing on spontaneous wild magic effects rather than player boons and banes.
