We’re not sure why this wasn’t part of the service from the beginning, but Funimation announced today that viewers of their streaming channel will have the option to watch anime in Spanish and Portuguese starting next Wednesday.
Funi hasn’t confirmed if this change affects EVERY show, but they did provide a short list of shows that will definitely have Spanish and Portuguese dubbing and subtitles. That list includes My Hero Academia, Attack on Titan, Overlord, Assassination Classroom, Blood Blockade Battlefront, and Tokyo Ghoul, as well as some classics like Fruits Basket and Cowboy Bebop.
“Part of Funimation’s promise to fans is to be where they are, and if that’s their native language, then we will be there” says Asa Suehira, Chief Content Officer at Funimation Global Group. “As the popularity of anime continues to grow across the planet, we hope these new language offerings will enable more fans to enjoy their favorite content.”
The addition doesn’t just affect the US. Spanish and Portuguese subtitles and dubbing will be added to Funimation.com and the Funimation app in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Ireland. The change occurs February 3.
