I've been getting into 3D platformers lately and I'm really curious about the metroidvania sub-genre. While I know a lot of people talk about "Metroid Prime" and "Castlevania: Lords of Shadow," I'm looking for some standout titles that might not be as mainstream. What are your recommendations for 3D metroidvanias that offer a unique experience or interesting mechanics?

If you're exploring 3D Metroidvanias, I'd definitely recommend checking out "Axiom Verge 2" if you haven't already. It offers a unique twist with its focus on exploration and puzzle-solving, and the gameplay feels pretty fresh even for the genre. Another underrated gem is "Sundered," which blends hand-drawn art with rogue-like elements. Its procedural generation adds a layer of replayability that's often overlooked in Metroidvanias.

Since you're into platformers, have you tried "Ghostrunner"? While it leans more towards action, its parkour mechanics and level design are reminiscent of Metroidvania exploration, and the combat is super satisfying. What kind of mechanics are you most drawn to in a game?
