Western Adaptions 101 (Power Ranger fans, help me out)

Adaptations should worry about improving upon the source material instead of worrying whether it's original or not. It being close to the source material has absolutely nothing to do with it's quality.

Case in point: Time Force and Samurai. Both are almost 1:1 translations of their source material (Timeranger and Shinkenger), and both from beloved and high quality seasons. However, Time Force ended up being great while Samurai did not.

I feel like people have a bit of revisionist history with Time Force. Time Force turned out okay DESPITE copying the Sentai, not BECAUSE of it. The second half of the season is largely regarded as the point when the writers gave up, and that was the half when they started really sticking to the Sentai.
