Video Games on Cassette Tape?

Steve Benway's awesome video on Video Games on Cassette tapes. Yes they were like audio cassettes except they played video games. We had them in the UK in the early 1980's (I think) and as this video shows they were AWFUL!!! Check this video out!!

You know that nintendo had games on tape with the NES?

Were there actually any games released on cassette with the Famicom Data Recorder? I thought it was only for doing savegames and for saving data from the BASIC program.

I could have sworn nintendo had casset games. Seems I was mistaken.

I guess by proxy it could have games... or programs at least. I know the ZX Spectrum had cassette tape programs/games, and if I'm not mistaken it was mad popular in the UK way back when.

That takes me back.

My very first console as a child was the Colecovision ADAM. It was a game console/personal computer hybrid and it played both Colecovision cartridges and games on cassette tape. The load times were atrocious though. So we only ever got four cassette games; "Construction Pinball", "Hard Hat Mac", "Sub-Roc" & "Buck Rogers" before sticking exclusively with the cartridge games.
