There's a difference between being difficult and being mind-numbingly tedious.

I've played these:

#9 - Metal Gear Solid (Playstation, 1998)
#8 - Shinobi (Playstation 2, 2002)
#7 - Devil May Cry 3: Overseas Edition* (Playstation 2, 2005)
#5 - Battletoads (Famicom, 1991)
#3 - Contra (Famicom, 1987)
#2 - Super Makimura** (Super Famicom, 1991)

MGS and DMC 3 weren't really difficult. Same with Contra and Battletoads since I always played them in co-op mode. I remember having a hard time with Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts and with the final boss in Shinobi.

There are quite a number of games that were difficult for me during the first few times of gameplay. These were usually platformers (Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, Kid Niki, etc.) and shmups (Gradius, Darius, Thunder Force, etc.) but once you get the hang of the game's pattern, it becomes a hell of a lot easier.

My list. Couldn't put alot of thought in 10-6. It's more like a Top 5. Also, be a real man/woman !! Try completing the Top 5 games without cheating. :198:

10. Castlevania Cronicles PSX (Difficult, but doable)

9. Cannon Spike DC (Easy game, but only 3 continues and no way to unlock more ?! o_0)

8. Battletoads NES (Enough said)

7. Metal Gear for NES (Difficult due to soilders shooting diagonal, but doable)

6. Snakes Revenge (Not only enemies shoot diagonal, it's hard not to be spoted by light or choopers. )

5. Mortal Kombat Mythologies Subzero (When you reach the end of the building of the first level, WTF do you do (Without looking it up online) ?! )

4. Superman 64 N64 (The rings are self explainitory; however, once you get past the 4 or 5 levels of rings, you have to do certain mission. The missions im alright with, but the game in general hasn't gone thru a QA at all. If the time limit or the difficulty won't kill you; trust me, the bugs will. I swear, as soon as i got the Super Speed (without cheating btw), i was running down the hallway and i ran thru a wall, a wall in which you not suppose to be able to go thru. As a result, i was stuck there in a limbo of sorts with no way out and had to wait for time to run out. :redface2:

3. Splatterhouse 3 GEN (This game is fun as hell; however, if you try to beat this without a guide or save states there's no way in hell your getting the good ending. >8( )

2. X-men for NES (The game is just sooo terribly made. I seriously doubt anyone has ever beaten the whole game.)

1. Spiderman and X-men Arcade's Revenge SNES/GEN (Fun game; however, extremely difficult (Especially when your at Gambit's level and Wolverine's second stage against Juggernaut. Again, i never met anyone who has ever beaten this game without having to use save states or cheating. :redface2)

Metal Gear solid was not that hard. and Contra could be beaten if you knew the code to get the extra lives.

Why is Metal Gear on the list that game is easy even of the Hardest difficulty level?
But Ninja Gaiden i have yet to beat that and its been a year now.....
