I just finished another playthrough of Final Fantasy IX, and I can't help but marvel at the rich tapestry of storytelling woven into this game. There's so much depth in the character arcs and subplots that I feel like it deserves a deeper look.
Take Zidane's development, for instance, he starts as this carefree thief but gradually confronts his own identity and purpose throughout the journey. And then there's the theme of existentialism, especially with the way the game handles life and death through characters like Kuja and even the way Vivi grapples with his own existence as an artificial being.
I mean, how many times did we tear up at the moments of realization for each character? And don't get me started on how beautifully the game's aesthetic meshes with its themes. It feels like they really wrote a love letter to fantasy and childhood.
I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on the lesser-known narrative elements. What subplots or character moments stood out to you? Did any scenes hit you harder than you remembered? Let's remind ourselves why IX is still a masterpiece, one of the best in the series, if you ask me. Fight me on it!
