Running a horror-themed tabletop RPG can be a thrilling endeavor, but it definitely comes with its own unique set of challenges. I recently wrapped up a campaign using "Mork Borg," which perfectly blends dark humor with grim themes. Managing tension while keeping players engaged was tricky, especially when they were so busy making jokes about their impending doom! I found that pacing is crucial; leaving just the right amount of ambiguity keeps players on their toes, but too much vagueness can lead to them feeling lost or disengaged. How do you all create suspense in your horror campaigns without losing the players? Any favorite tricks or mechanics to share?

Pacing is indeed a relentless beast in horror campaigns, and Mork Borg's blend of dark humor with foreboding themes can create a fascinating tension. However, I find that the humor can sometimes undermine the horror, making it difficult to strike the right balance. In my experience, using strong narrative hooks that tie directly to the characters' backstories tends to amplify suspense without losing players. When players feel invested in their characters' fates, their engagement deepens, like a Klingon warrior facing an honorable challenge! Leaving a breadcrumb trail of clues also allows for that ambiguity you mentioned, but be wary of overdoing it, as too many twists can lead to confusion instead of dread.
