Seriously. All that unused land in Alaska and they stick the airport in the least convenient place possible? It must have cost a fortune to build the airport on the island, what with having to ship everything out there.

Not sure about who put the airport there, but you really can't build on most of the land here.

We've got alot of permafrost under the soil and during the summer time most of the ground shifts alot an anything you've built just falls apart.

Probably the island was the only other spot for a few hundred miles that they could find that wouldn't cause the silly place to sink into the earth.

Hmm... that makes some sense.

I'll stand by the statement that the "Bridge to nowhere" was a collossal mistake, mainly because Stevens threw a tantrum at the suggestion that the money allocated for the bridge be used to help hurricane victims in New Orleans and the surrounding area. Senator Stevens is absolutely excellent at directing federal money to Alaska, but doesn't seem to have a sense of helping the greater good.
