I've heard that it's supposed to be a complete reimagining of the origins of the original crew.

It's also not so much that everyone in my town is a trekkie (I wish), but that I'm sure everybody knows and loves Star Trek to a certain degree. Also, I don't know how many people were expecting to see a preview for a new Star Trek movie, so I'm sure it was a pretty nice surprise to many
