Silent Hill Lives! A Faithful Remake of the Original is Finally Here

Silent Hill 1 is often overshadowed by the more emotionally complex SH2, but the original laid the foundation for horror storytelling in games. The fear came from disorientation and helplessness, not gore. I'm pleased to hear the developers behind the SH2 remake are also working on this. If they understand subtlety and dread as well as they showed before, we might receive a version of Silent Hill 1 that finally allows it to stand equally beside its sequel.

Silent Hill is special because it doesn’t show you everything. You walk through fog and hear something, but you don’t always see it. That gives you fear in your mind. If the remake keeps that kind of fear—soft, quiet fear—then it will be good. If they put too many cutscenes or loud monsters, it will not feel the same. I hope they trust players to feel the horror by themselves.
