Things were dire for The Simpsons in the year 2007; the show had fallen far short of its glory days and the new episodes just lacked the same zing. Then, out of nowhere. came a web-swinging pig to save the day. The Simpsons Movie was released that July, pleasing fans and critics alike and reigniting our faith in Homer. It’s a different world now and the latest seasons of The Simpsons don’t really suck that much (nothing will ever compare to the classic years, but these new ones are actually funny). No one saw it coming, but we’re now getting a sequel. 20th Century Studios announced The Simpsons Movie 2 (or whatever it will be called) on an otherwise lazy Monday morning. They even have a date for it. According to the released poster, the second Simpsons Movie will premiere a little less than two years from now, on July 23, 2027. This is almost exactly twenty years to the day that the first movie opened in theaters. It’s also the same day that Disney had something on its schedule called “Untitled Marvel Project.” We think that is likely to be moved. The original film was rather profitable for what […]

I actually liked the first Simpsons Movie, even if I was already feeling tired of the show back then. The movie felt bigger, sharper, and funnier than most of the episodes that aired around that time. Knowing that a second film is coming in 2027 makes me curious if they can repeat that balance. The series today is not what it used to be, but I have laughed at some of the recent episodes, which gives me hope. What matters to me is if they make it feel like an event again, not just an extended episode.

Thank goodness it is not live action. I cannot imagine The Simpsons working in that style at all. The charm of the show is in the animation, the colors, and the exaggerated expressions that only work in cartoon form. A live action version would just look strange and uncomfortable. Keeping it animated means it will stay true to what made it special in the first place.

I never watched The Simpsons Movie in theaters, only on TV later, but I remember enjoying it. This news makes me want to rewatch it to see if it holds up. If the sequel is as good or better, then it will be worth going to the cinema for. I hope they keep Spider-Pig in it, because that was honestly my favorite part.

I think people are underestimating how hard it is to make another Simpsons Movie. The first one had years of planning, and it came out when the show was still much closer to its original staff. Many of the classic writers are not there anymore. It is possible that the sequel feels more like the modern seasons, which means it could be hit or miss.

I will probably skip it. I stopped watching The Simpsons around season 20, and I do not feel any attachment to the newer seasons. A movie made today does not have the same weight for me. I do not hate the idea, but it is simply not something I need in my life right now.

The Simpsons has changed tone since 2007, and the writing is more polished but less daring. The first movie had the dome plot, which was actually ambitious. I wonder what kind of plot can top that without feeling forced. If they aim for safe comedy, it will just feel like an extended episode.

This sequel is surprising but welcome. The Simpsons has become part of television history, and giving it another movie gives the creators a chance to honor that. I like that they set the date close to the anniversary of the first film. It feels symbolic. If they manage to create a story that celebrates the family’s role in pop culture, it could feel meaningful rather than just a cash grab.

I am curious about the production side. The first film took many years to develop, and animators worked hard to polish every detail. Today, technology has advanced, but the workload for a theatrical animated film is still huge. I wonder if they already have the script and storyboards ready. Two years is not a long time for animation at this scale. If they really have things moving, it means the project has been in development quietly for a while. That gives me more confidence.

A sequel twenty years later feels strange. By 2027, most of the kids who saw the first movie will be adults with kids of their own. Maybe that is the point. Parents will take their children to watch what they loved when they were younger. If that is the case, it might actually do well in the box office again, even if critics do not all like it.

I never really understood why people say the new seasons are unwatchable. I still find them funny. The characters are familiar, the world is colorful, and even if not every joke lands, there is always something clever. That is why I am happy we are finally getting another movie. I think it can show people that The Simpsons still has energy left.
