Religious undertones in Ultraman Nexus?

Rewatching Ultraman Nexus, I tried to dig into the symbolism that the show presented us with.
I know that both Mephisto and Faust are names are associated with the devil, but often the Japanese just like to use names that "sound cool".
I know that he was an alien lifeform, but were we supposed to believe that Zagi was THE actual devil, or have I been reading too much into the show?

Doubtful, if only because there would have been an actual Dark Lucifer if the show had continued.

Mind, religious undertones in Ultraman is likely very deliberate, at least with the older shows. The creator was a Christian, after all.

All this religious talk reminds me of that Ultraman Ace episode. I'm not religious but I wouldn't mind owning this playset. Too bad I didn't get it this X-mas. Oh well.

The symbolism is there, although I don't think it was supposed to be literal.

Then again, Revenge of Belial suggested that Ultraman Noa is connected to that "Noa no Kami".
