Everyone groaned over how distasteful the killing of Ms. Marvel was in Spider-Man #26, a move purely for shock value that wasn’t even that shocking. Comic book deaths being pulled as cheap stunts and then quickly reversed is as old as the hills at this point, and sure enough, here comes a new book where she’s alive, well and lively. The only difference is that normally the Big Two wait a few months before doing this.

Personally, I believe it would have been preferable if they had released a new Ms. Marvel book and let Iman Vellani to write it without first murdering off the character. The shock value of the death does not appear to be essential, and I doubt it would have had a big impact on sales. It appears to be a missed chance.

I'm truly pleasantly surprised to find out that Iman Vellani, who plays Ms. Marvel onscreen, is now co-writing her character in the comics. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for her to offer her own viewpoint and insights to the plot, given her intimate knowledge of the character as a fan who used to cosplay Kamala before landing the role. I can only imagine how excited and motivated she must be to take on this new creative position. It demonstrates the rising influence and collaboration between diverse mediums, and I can't wait to see how her vision manifests itself on the pages of the comic. Iman Vellani deserves praise for seizing this opportunity and erasing the barriers between the onscreen and comicbook worlds.

To be honest, I think the whole idea of killing off Ms. Marvel was dumb from the start. It's a familiar comic book premise that frequently feels like a cheap effort for shock value. Bringing her back so rapidly and turning her into a mutant now appears to be a desperate attempt to correct a mistake. I would have rather that they focus on telling fascinating stories with Kamala Khan without turning to politics or public appearances. It's often disheartening to witness such a dearth of imagination in the comic book industry.

I knew this death wont last because she have an upcoming movie, Its just a cheap publicity stunt.

Sigh Another death undone. How shocking... or not. Comic book deaths have become the equivalent of playing a game of Whac-A-Mole. They pop up, get a brief moment of attention, and then vanish without a trace. It's like the writers are afraid of making any lasting changes to the characters. Let's just hope they put more effort into the storytelling moving forward.

And the award for the most pointless death and quickest resurrection goes to... Ms. Marvel! Seriously, these comic book deaths are becoming a joke. They might as well start selling "Death and Resurrection Collector's Edition" boxes. It's hard to take any of it seriously anymore.
