Kamen Rider...for kids?

VengeanceGOD

WIIIIIIIIIIII!
I still have trouble after having watched Blade thinking that it's a show made for kids. I know it is, but it's more grown up than most American adult shows...is Toku really watched primarily by kids in Japan?

Probably Toei don't make TV Shows for specific ages, they just do the story as whatever's going on in their minds!!

That's one thing that's cool about Japanese TV, the fact that it's not aimed at specific age groups!! They just let their show find it's own audiance. For example: Kamen Rider, originally intended to be a kids show, but later turned out to be adult!!

This is probably why there are some naughty stuff in Anime cartoons, DragonBall for example, Master Roshi being perverted by Bulma and other female characters all the time!!

It's absolutely aimed at kids.

Look at the audiences at stage shows and other such events. Listen to when the actors talk about their fans in interviews. Look at and read the commercials/ads for the merchandise. It's overwhelmingly kids, and tiny kids at that.

No, Tokusatsu isn't aimed primarily at children, but the Tokusatsu Hero sub-genre is. There is a distinction between just Tokusatsu as a whole and its subgenres.

However, I actually do remember reading about some parents criticizing shows like Agito, saying the stories were too complex for children.

Well, Blade (or Kamen Rider) is definately aimed primarily at kids. But I do think they take into account the older/adult fans as well, since there's about just as much pricey stuff marketed towards collectors (re: adults) as there are toys aimed at kids. In other words, you can sum it up as a "kids show that adults can enjoy too." This is something that I think has been true since the start of Rider- some of the other shows from that time had more juvenile plotlines, but Rider's almost consistantly had this nice edge to it that always hits if off with me. Of course, most people would say something like that about their favorite franchise anyways. :laugh:

I wasn't arguing the fact. Looking at the toys tells me its aimed for kids, before we get into any of that stuff. I was just saying its hard to get my head around such a good show being a "kids show."

Isn't Kamen Rider and Sentai shown back to back in a block?

I always find it strange how different in tone the two shows are.

Tokusatsu the genre isn't always aimed at kids...But Kamen Rider generally is aimed at kids. The older shows were aimed at the Shounen Demo of 12-16. The newer shows are aimed at a slightly younger crowd though. But it isn't something like Sentai where every show is aimed at children and made for the sole purpose of toy sells...Which is something Rider can actually say it isn't.

But overall...Yeah, it is made for kids ^^;
