Goseiger VS Shinkenger Talkback!

I keep saying the movie is a blast..because it is! The action is awesome, the characters are all well represented and it showcases what's awesome about both series. It's become my favorite Sentai Team-Up movie dethroning my previous favorite which was MegaRanger vs. Gingaman. Still love that one to bits though.

Another aspect of it that was fun for me was when GoSeiger started out I wasn't very keen on the show or Alata at all. But I kept watching GoSeiger and not only did the series get better but Alata basically earned his Red-cred as it went on. So for me it was cool to see the Red that over time earned my respect teaming up with one of my favorite Reds of all.

The ending bit where the Shinkenger crew is kind of walking off into the sunset was bitter sweet. Their series ended up not being all it could have been but it's still a cool concept and I like those characters. I'm glad they got to go out in something as awesome as this.

- Takeru acting against the type of Red he is and actually accepting Alata's help from the start instead of saying something stupid like, "You're too naive, shorty." (It's like they actually remembered how his character had evolved at the end of the show.)

Yeah, I remember watching that scene and thinking "Oh, god, here we go, he's gonna tell him to **** off and we'll have to spend the whole movie on Idiot Plot"... but no! Maturity for the win! It made a nice contrast with how the teams didn't really want to get along, too.

I kinda think this movie remembered a lot of Goseiger's continuity better than the show itself did at points. I like how they even remembered little things that only appeared in one episode, like Hyde being obsessive about the best place to buy produce, or the "heightened solar flare activity" thing from the second episode.

Bladerun trolled everyone. Including the audience. I was reading a Japanese blog that said the theater she saw the movie in kind of exploded when he did the face-reveal. One of the sad things about going in spoilered, you lose some appreciation for moments like that. It was still awesome, though.

Overall what I really like about this movie is that you get the feeling that before they put a single word to paper, they sat down and re-watched both series, and took notes on what was really special and important about each. Not just in terms of concrete stuff like characters and setting cruft, but more abstract stuff like theme and how the audience is supposed to feel about what's going down. What you end up with is kind of like a highlight reel of both series compressed down into an hour. Sweet.

Goseiger vs. Shinkenger is one of the recent team-ups of late that hit nearly everything I want from these specials.

I know continuity isn't that important or emphasized in the East compared to the West, but I really like how this team up felt like it continued from the finale within a reasonable time-frame. It's something that I felt was done right in specials like Gekiranger vs. Boukenger and Dekaranger vs. Abaranger, but not in specials like Magiranger vs. Dekaranger (Fire Squad, for example), and Go-onger vs. Gekiranger (how they all got together despite Jan and Gou venturing off could've been done better, personally). It made sense for all of them to come back the way they did, and I think the special is all the better for it.

Seeing Takeru treat Alata like an ally at the beginning was something I enjoyed. It showed just how far Takeru has come in terms of personality, and it was a welcome change to see the Reds getting along. It actually made the hostility that Ryunosuke and Chiaki held towards the Goseigers surprising, since it's usually the non-Reds that generally get along with each other.

I liked how long they kept Bladerun's identity hidden from the audience (or those that weren't keeping a close eye on the movie's news). I wish it would've been something referenced in the series proper, but alas.

The debut of the Gokaigers was cool, if really, really contradictory to the actual Gokaiger story. The suit actors and writers did a great job of keeping their personalities and movements (specifically, how GokaiPink and Green like using their guns, while Yellow and Blue used their swords to the point where Blue double-wielded!) very similar to how they behave on the show, which is something I think was last done effectively in W's debut.

I wish we would've been able to see Kaoru in action again. If the Goseigers made Super Change cards for the Shinkengers, surely Kaoru deserved a way to fight alongside the other Shinkengers? I do understand why Kaoru wouldn't fight alongside Takeru story-wise; I'll admit it's my desire to see both ShinkenReds fighting together.

I had one minor disappointment before this was subbed and I only had the OST to "tell" me the story, so to speak: the ED theme was initially disappointing compared to last year's until I realized through the lyrics that it's a song referencing Super Sentai more than Shinkenger. In a way, the song (and essentially, the film itself) is the first form of media to reference the 35th Anniversary.

All in all, it was a very enjoyable teamup, and my favorite Vs. since Dekaranger vs. Abaranger.

I just saw it last night. Here are my comments:

The Good:
-Loved the reaction that each team had on their own point-of-view
-Awesome display of Gosei Red's action, especially when he fought Gedou Shinken Red
-The Gokaigers' Cameo (Very EPIC!!!:castlerock:)
-Bladerun's return as a Gedoushuu general
-Loved Gedou Shinken Red's debut
-Awesome display of the final battle

The Bad:
-Dai Goyou's short role
-Kaoru-hime's short role
-The Super Mojikara Power Summon Card's exclusive debut. I don't get why they didn't a more miraculous introduction as a reward (I.E. The Magirangers' New Magic Spells)
-The Opening sequence and the Ending sequence that showed the photos of each Sentai VS Team-up, instead of the entire Sentai reference photo collection like in Gekiranger vs. Boukenger's Opening Sequence.
-No Samurai Haoh and Gosei Ultimate.:disappoin

Overall, it was quite enjoyable. Next to Shinkenger vs. Go-Onger, and Dekaranger vs. Abaranger when it comes to the gap between Professionals and Amateurs.

Why wouldn't Takeru accept Alata's help? The reason why he didn't want to take his vassals help was because he wasn't the real Shiba head. He felt guilty. Same reason he wouldn't take ShinkenGold's help. Four people who he was lying too were already risking their lives...now he had to risk his best friend's too?

He didn't take Sosuke's help because Sosuke was a goofball who didn't seem to take his job seriously. (See the introduction fight scene of Shinken vs. Go-On.) Alata, though laid-back, takes his job as a Gosei Angel very seriously. Of course he would accept his help.

Anyway, I do agree this was a fairly good special. Probably not my favorite, but it's definitely one of the greater crossover specials. GoseiRed vs. ShinkenRed is probably some of the best choreography Sentai *or* Kamen Rider has seen in years. Congrats on that.

Only part I'm disappointed about...no GoseiUltimate. >_<

Yeah, I feel that Takeru is often misunderstood. He wasn't really friendly in the beginning of Shinkenger because he felt guilty about being the kagemusha, so he didn't want to become a friend to his vassals and lie to them, that's why he was emotionally detached. What we saw in this movie is the real Takeru, who became the real 19th head of Shiba house at the end of the series.
