Going Galactic? Why not!

Ah, yes, RPM. Forgot about that. I may have to make that one my next one, even though I absolutely hate the theme song. Not sure what people see it; it's just heavy metal noise to me. Hardly melodic. I'll take the college rock themes of Ninja Storm and Jungle Fury any day.

Nobody likes the theme song of RPM. It's by far my favorite series, yet it and Samurai are the only theme songs not on my car's USB music drive.

The score of the actual episodes/season are far better.

So, for those of you who know me, I am NOT a Power Rangers fan. I was when I was a kid, and I keep up with news and current events regarding Power Rangers, but I am a Super Sentai fan. I don't claim to be a Japanese purist, it's just that after becoming a Super Sentai fan, Power Rangers has lost any appeal it use to have with me.

HOWEVER!
I have Netflix now, and out of complete curiosity, I've been watching Power Rangers Lost Galaxy. I have not been watching Gingaman, so this will be the first time I actually watch something in reverse order since In Space was first on television.

Why Lost Galaxy?
Well, I actually like the theme song. It actually feels like a Power Rangers theme song without recycling Go Go Power Rangers for the Nth time.
But also, I have become REALLY interested in adaptions that move as far away from the plot of the source material and try to tell their own story, and this is one of them. Gingaman was a fantasy story; Lost Galaxy was a scifi story. Kind of like the difference in theme between MMPR and ZyuRanger. The fact that they changed the minion monsters also has earned my respect.

So far? It's actually not bad. I'm up to the episode where the Lights of Orion have chosen to grant their power to the Power Rangers instead of the Magna Defender. Including Super Megaforce, this will be the first time I've decided to watch a Power Rangers season in full since Dino Thunder. I think I might actually like Lost Galaxy! Should I go on to see Lightspeed Rescue? I've seen some of Time Force, and was turned off when it was just too similar to Time Ranger.

Lost galaxy is one my favorite one too.

So far compared to Gingaman, Lost Galaxy is better since it just has a lot more Super Sentai elements, minus the weirdness of Super Sentai, it's much more darker villain and ranger wise which ties so well into the story. Gives it more of an adult feel, you know.

I'm going to watch Gingaman for a while and see. It might not be done, but I still feel obligated to give it a try. I still just wish the characters of Lost Galaxy had more appeal or quirkiness, even if it meant making Lost Galaxy a little more light hearted. It's this reason that made watching the later half of the show more of a grind to me.

Speaking of unfinished subs... Should I revisit Alien Rangers?
I've seen and talked about how Mighty Morphin, after Season 1, was a real editing nightmare. And now that I think about it, Alien Rangers probably had it the worst of all the Zordon Era shows. Plus, I'm in an old school mood, and I am sure GUIS will finish KakuRanger... Eventually. :eyebrow:

Too bad OhRanger is stuck in fansub limbo... I guess there is always ZyuRanger or DaiRanger.

You get more of the quirkiness in Gingaman which has more of a light-hearted tone all over so far from the characters so I think the writers of Lost Galaxy wanted to keep those darker tones to keep the viewer watching by keeping the story as suspenseful as it was which they did the same for In Space by the end of it.

If you go there, you will definitely appreciate Kakuranger for what it is. I'm almost finished with it and so far I love it WAAAAAYYY more than Alien Rangers, It's funny with a dark story behind it but goes back to funny to take some of that heaviness off. It's just great to me :anime:

I saw some of the later shows (Hurricane Ranger to the pirate series) not all the way through in most cases but 3 all the way) and having seen MMPR - Lost Galaxy I'll be getting the US Power Rangers shows. Why? Most of the neweer TV shows suck pretty bad and a lot of shows they have running that are worth watching are done so that doesn't leave much left on TV any more. Power Rangers is still running today so it's one of the few shows I'll outright watch any more. Apart from that I won't watch TV hardly at all. So I buy older shows on DVD. Shout Factory got release rights for Power Rangers up to Samurai. (I'll get the new episodes VIA Lionsgate next year.) Except for Power Rangers I couldn't be bothered with it any more.

Yeah Kakuranger is really good, its just a shame that GUIS got all the way to 47 and for whatever reason they haven't progressed any further since a few months ago.

I have heard that Millionfold Curiosity is going to do both Gingaman and Ohranger which would be friggin awesome. Would have been nice for Hi No Tori to finish Gingaman but I will take what I can get lolz.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to give a quick update. I have NOT forgotten about this. Still planning on downloading Gingaman, still planning on watching Alien Rangers/KakuRanger. I've just has so much on my plate lately...

  • I've been looking for a job. Tired of my old one.
  • I finished the David Tennant season of Doctor Who.
  • I've been re-watching Gokaiger with Over Time's subs; cataloging all the ultimate powers. Kind of interesting how some don't have a specific power while, I think, all of them can summon a copy of their standard giant robots. The 199 Hero movie basically confirms this.

I'll be done with all of that soon enough. Just want to make it clear I haven't forgotten. The minute I say I am going to do something, I take it as an obligation. Not really sure if this journey of mine matters to anyone, but if someone here finds this fun or interesting or whatever, then I want to keep you guys entertained. Definitely.
