So, for those of you who know me, I am NOT a Power Rangers fan. I was when I was a kid, and I keep up with news and current events regarding Power Rangers, but I am a Super Sentai fan. I don't claim to be a Japanese purist, it's just that after becoming a Super Sentai fan, Power Rangers has lost any appeal it use to have with me.
HOWEVER!
I have Netflix now, and out of complete curiosity, I've been watching Power Rangers Lost Galaxy. I have not been watching Gingaman, so this will be the first time I actually watch something in reverse order since In Space was first on television.
Why Lost Galaxy?
Well, I actually like the theme song. It actually feels like a Power Rangers theme song without recycling Go Go Power Rangers for the Nth time.
But also, I have become REALLY interested in adaptions that move as far away from the plot of the source material and try to tell their own story, and this is one of them. Gingaman was a fantasy story; Lost Galaxy was a scifi story. Kind of like the difference in theme between MMPR and ZyuRanger. The fact that they changed the minion monsters also has earned my respect.
So far? It's actually not bad. I'm up to the episode where the Lights of Orion have chosen to grant their power to the Power Rangers instead of the Magna Defender. Including Super Megaforce, this will be the first time I've decided to watch a Power Rangers season in full since Dino Thunder. I think I might actually like Lost Galaxy! Should I go on to see Lightspeed Rescue? I've seen some of Time Force, and was turned off when it was just too similar to Time Ranger.
