It'd be neat if they could get John-Rhys Davies and Ian McKellan to reprise their roles in these.

Gimli isn't in The Hobbit.

There's still Ian McKellan, who I pray comes back, along with Ian Holm (Bilbo) and Andy Serkis (Gollum, as if I needed to say who he played :laugh. I never read the book, but I saw the animated movie and I know those three characters are in the story. I hope that the three actors return to lend continuity to the new film.

Question: Is the Hobbit sequel going to be The Silmarillion, the second half of the Hobbit, or some new story?

I guess someone forgot to point out to Peter "Let me change your story for you" Jackson and New Line that the sequel to The Hobbit was The Lord of the Rings.
