Everything Announced During The September Nintendo Direct

This morning’s Nintendo Direct was the longest one the company’s put out all year at over an hour in length, and covered not just what’s coming this holiday season but everything up to the spring. As usual, we collected a full list of their announcements, with trailers where applicable, and have posted them in the order of their release dates. Donkey Kong Bananza: DK Island + Emerald Rush — today I wasn’t expecting DLC for Bananza, but seeing DK’s own homestead, with the giant rock shaped like his noggin, finally in the game is a great feeling. It’s also cheap compared to everything else Nintendo revealed today (wait’ll you look up the prices for some of those amiibo). The only downside is….it’s out NOW. Even with the weekend on the horizon I don’t have time! Storm Lancers — today Described as a 2D action-platformer roguelike with visuals and characters inspired by 80s anime. More things need to be inspired by 80s anime. Hades II — September 25 Version 1.0 will be a Switch exclusive and will run at 120FPS on the Switch 2 when docked. There will also be a physical copy in November, and yes, the game is on […]

I am a little disappointed by the order of the Dragon Quest remakes. I wanted IV before VII because it has such a strong reputation. Jumping ahead feels strange, and it makes me question if Square Enix has a long-term plan for these reimaginings. Still, at least Dragon Quest is alive and well.

The reveal that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be the big holiday release feels like a relief. After so many years of silence, it is reassuring to finally have a date. The idea of Samus having a rideable machine is strange but interesting. I just hope it does not distract from the core exploration and atmosphere that make Metroid Prime special.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A already has DLC announced before its launch. I do not like this direction. It feels like content is being sliced away to sell later. If they want to keep player trust, Game Freak should focus on delivering a complete main game first. DLC can come after, not before the first players even get their hands on it.

Storm Lancers Hypes! I grew up watching old anime from the 80s, and the art style has a certain charm that newer shows lack. Having a roguelike with that aesthetic is perfect for me. I hope it is not too punishing, because I prefer progression that respects my time rather than constant resets.

Tomodachi Life returning as Living the Dream makes me really happy. I spent many hours with the original, and I like how silly and personal it was. I hope they expand the relationship and life simulation aspects, because the original felt limited after a while. If they do, this could easily become one of the most popular social simulation games again.

Fatal Frame 2 remake is something I never thought I would see. That game terrified me when I was younger. The idea of facing those ghost encounters again with updated graphics makes me nervous but excited. I hope they do not change too much of the original design, because the atmosphere is what made it unforgettable.

I was surprised to see Resident Evil 7 and Village finally hitting Switch. I always assumed those would be too demanding. Even if they rely on cloud streaming, it is good to make them available. Horror fans on Switch do not have as many options compared to other genres, so this feels like a step in the right direction. Also Resident evil 9 too!
