...Did Anybody Actually Like Flash Titan? (May Contain Spoilers)

Kimiden

Great Sage-Equal of Heaven
Okay so I'm finally sitting down to watch Choushinsei Flashman in all its entirety (as I finally have the time to do so) and I come to the 20's. Namely that rather wonderful story arc with Ley Baraki....

And then it ended and I was left saying "WTF?"

Now I know Flashman is part of the Golden Age of Sentai and all and thus really popular, hell I'm loving it so far, but...did anybody actually like Flash Titan?

It's got to be the most disappointing, cheaply designed, and ugly mech I've ever seen. I mean, how can you go from Flash King, arguably one of the best main robots from that time period, to that hunk of junk? I'll give you that Titan Boy didn't look so bad but Great Titan? What a design cop-out!

So I ask you, did anybody actually like that monstrosity of a mech?

I feel your pain, buddy. I'm glad Great Titan only shows up for a minute, blasts the enemy, then leaves. Such a crappy mech in an otherwise great show. :nono:

I am a Flashy-fan and I really like the introduction of Flash Titan into the series. The whole stretch of episodes (15~20 -- intro of Kaura, in need of mecha etc) is one of the best arcs.

Design-wise, I don't really find the Boy that ugly, only the Great Titan. Its so big and heavy that it actually drags itself to face the monsters. But ya can't blame that, its the trailer. I think out of all Titan's form, I like the original form the best (when its still a lorry and a trailer, I dunno why). Its just... cool to fight using a vehicle mode  (refer to the first time they used the mecha, not knowing it has the Boy mode. Its like, speeding all the way, and just missile attacks).

The only big disappointment (to me) was the way they made Boy's fight. It always, without fail, have this kiddish feeling. Jumping around, footages fast forward, making it look like a funny battle.

Flash King's still the best. The very last Great Titan battle (finale) was good, though. That'll tell you not to mess with the ugly one, 'cuz it proves to be better than Flash King.

Great Titan...it's not the best lookin' thing, but I think it's certainly far from the ugliest sentai mecha. There's not really that much you can do design-wise with a truck's trailer to spruce it up and make it look cool.

Maybe I'm just be biased, because when I was a kid I thought the Flash Titan/Titan Boy/Great Titan toy was the coolest thing ever; that present is one of my earliest Christmas memories.

But Titan Boy certainly kicks ass -- he's such a hyper little guy, and was so cool he spawned several inferior imitators. But, yeah, Flash King was certainly the best Flash mecha, and my favorite sentai mecha period.

Well there's no denying the trailer kicked ass, same goes for Titan Boy. I just think that Great Titan could have done a lot better than just pulling an Ultra Magnus and slapping the truck into the back.

For me, the turn off for me was the model of the thing. It's like a cross between Flash King and a Monster Truck rally sideshow attraction. That and it's kinda hard to top Flash King

Now if only I can get myself a StarCondor/Flash King set...
