Murmrr Presents, a New York-based events company, has rounded up most of the cast from the hit live Actual Play series The Twenty-Sided Tavern for a one-night presentation. Called Tales From The Tavern, it will be held at the Crown Hill Theatre in Brooklyn, NY next month, with an after-party immediately following the performance. Officially licensed by Wizards of the Coast, The Twenty-Sided Tavern is a liveplay D&D campaign that’s truly live: each member of the audience loads a browser-based app called Gamiotics that allows them to vote on which way the story will go next. They vote on what characters appear, what they encounter, and what incidents befall them. There are even moments when members of the audience are invited upstage to participate in games like trivia, charades, and Fantasy Beer Pong. But that’s a different show. I’m going just for RJ Christian. The guy is hilarious and quick-witted. I don’t even care about D&D that much, but whenever he’s on a mic, I know it’s going to be entertaining. These types of shows are great because they mix roleplaying with improv and comedy. Also, I’m curious who the “unannounced guests” will be. I’m betting one of them is from Dimension 20 or Dropout.

This kind of thing is not for me. I tried watching actual play shows before, and they always feel too long and random. Even if the audience can vote, the story doesn’t seem serious. I understand some people enjoy it, but I like more structured performances. Also, if it's a separate adventure, then why is it called "Tales From The Tavern"? It sounds like a spin-off. Just being honest here.

This sounds so fun! I never played Dungeons & Dragons before, but I always wanted to learn. I like the idea that the audience helps choose the story. It makes it feel more exciting and less like normal theater. Also, I like the mix of actors here, and I hope they announce the surprise guests soon. I just hope the ticket price is not too high because I’m a student.
