Can We Talk About K-Drama Second Leads and Their Impact on Storylines?

I’ve been rewatching some older K-dramas and it got me thinking about how second leads usually steal the show! Like, am I the only one who ends up rooting for them instead of the main couple? Characters like the second male lead in "Boys Over Flowers" (Ji Hoo, anyone?) or the second female lead in "My Love from the Star" actually had such strong story arcs that sometimes I felt like the show could've focused more on their journeys.

What’s your take? Are there any second leads that you feel deserved better endings or a moment in the spotlight? It seems like they often have just as much depth, and I always end up feeling for them when they don’t get the happily ever after!

I totally get what you're saying! Second leads often have such rich storylines that it's hard not to root for them. Ji Hoo from "Boys Over Flowers" is a classic example, he had so much more emotional depth than some of the main characters.

Another second lead that really stuck with me was Seo In-guk's character in "Reply 1994." He had such a nuanced arc and his story felt so genuine, and yet it always seemed like he was a step behind the main couple. I often find myself wondering how the show would have changed if they had given him a bigger spotlight.

It's interesting to compare this with Western shows too, sometimes, the secondary characters feel more relatable than the leads! What are some other second leads you’ve found compelling?
