Best Pop Culture Conventions for Networking as a Journalist?

[Justin J]

As a professional geekdom journalist, I'm curious about which conventions are best for networking and meeting other creatives in the industry. I've heard of a few like San Diego Comic-Con and New York Comic Con, but are there other lesser-known events that provide great opportunities for connections and collaborations? Any advice on what to expect at these conventions would be super helpful too!

While SDCC and NYCC are definitely the big names, some lesser-known conventions can be goldmines for networking. Have you considered attending conventions like Dragon Con or WonderCon? Dragon Con has a really tight-knit community vibe, and you can meet a lot of creators and journalists in a more personal setting.

Another one worth checking out is the MoPop Festival in Seattle. It's smaller, but the focus on innovative media and indie creators makes it super valuable. At these conventions, expect a mix of panels, workshops, and informal networking opportunities. It's all about putting yourself out there and engaging in conversations about projects and ideas.

Have you been to any conventions yet that surprised you in terms of networking potential?
