A Sequel To Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Is Possible If You All Just Believe

Timing really can destroy a good movie and this is proof. I never even knew this came out the same week as Mario until reading this.

I really want a sequel to this. I watched Honor Among Thieves without knowing much about D&D, and I still had a great time with it. The characters were easy to like, the jokes actually worked for me, and the fantasy stuff felt fun instead of being too serious. I also think the movie had a good group dynamic, which is important for this kind of story. I can understand why the studio would be careful after the first movie did not make enough money, but I hope they do not treat that as the end of the franchise. A sequel would already have an audience from people who discovered the movie later. I would rather see the same characters return than start over with a new cast.

A lot of fantasy movies spend so much time building the world that I stop caring about the characters. This one did the opposite for me. I cared about the group, so the fantasy setting became more enjoyable. I also liked that it did not take itself too seriously while still giving the emotional moments enough room. If they make another one, I hope they keep that balance. I do not need a darker version or something that tries to become a huge fantasy epic. Just give the characters another adventure and let them be funny and flawed. I think there are plenty of people who would give it a chance now.

Wizards changing the license a month before release was such bad luck. Companies really need to think about how their business decisions affect unrelated projects like this.

Honestly I feel bad for the actors more than anyone. They gave a great performance and it just got buried under bigger releases and company drama that had nothing to do with them.

I watched this with my kids and we all loved it equally which almost never happens with movies aimed at families. The humor works for adults and children which is hard to pull off. If this gets a sequel I hope they keep the same writers because the tone was perfect. Not too dark not too silly. My only complaint is some side characters could have used more screen time but that is a small issue compared to everything they did right. Streaming really needs a better way to measure success because clearly people are watching this movie based on how often I see it mentioned online even years later.

I think Hasbro will drag this out for years before anything actually happens. Big companies talk about sequels all the time and then nothing comes out.

This was one of the few video game or tabletop adaptations that did not feel embarrassing to watch. Most of these attempts fail badly so this one standing out says a lot about the writing quality.

I honestly think the characters are the main reason a sequel makes sense. You can replace a studio, change the marketing, and even adjust the budget, but you already have a group people liked. That is valuable. I liked how each character had a reason to be part of the team, and nobody felt completely useless. There was also enough room for more stories without having to repeat the first movie. I would especially like to see them deal with a new problem where their previous mistakes matter. That could make the sequel feel connected without just copying the same story. I do not care which studio distributes it. I just want the filmmakers and cast to have enough freedom to keep what worked.
