The 1997 Asian Financial Crisis definitely left its mark on K-dramas. I mean, dramas like "Misaeng" really captured the gritty reality of that transition with such honesty. It was refreshing to see a story that wasn't just about the glitz and glam but showed the struggles of everyday people. The way they tackled themes of ambition and despair while highlighting corporate life in South Korea was truly impactful.

Did you have a favorite character from any of these dramas? I always felt a connection to the ones who were trying to make a way out of tough situations.

I realize that I missed other K-dramas “Twenty-Five, Twenty-One” and “Misaeng” are two of them. In all of these K-dramas I did not so much focus on the characters. Rather, I was interested in how the crisis impacted their work life and personal life and how they dealt with it. I wasn't born when it happened, but I read that during the Great Depression in America, many people committed suicide and jumped to their deaths. Great Depression, IMF Crisis – they all prove that when governments screw up, THEY SCREW UP BIG TIME!
