Bride of the Century is the one that got me into this whole genre. I remember watching it years ago and being shocked at how dark it got for something that started as a cheerful body double story. The curse plot could have easily become silly but they kept it tense enough that I actually worried about the lead. Doo-Rim being so sunny while everyone around her is hiding secrets made the contrast work so well. I think what sold it for me was how the romance never felt like the main point, it was more like a side effect of two people surviving a mystery together. Still think about that ending sometimes. If you have not seen it, go in blind, do not read spoilers before starting.

The Bride of Habaek premise reminds me why I keep coming back to fantasy dramas even when I say I am done with them. A water god searching for his fated bride while she is trying to sell land and escape to another country is such a random but charming setup. The slow shift from annoyance to affection between two people who start out completely misunderstanding each other is something I never get tired of watching play out. Divine politics and jealous gods sound like a fun excuse to add tension outside the main couple too. I also like that she is a psychiatrist, that detail makes her stubborn disbelief in gods feel more grounded instead of just a plot device. Dramas mixing modern struggles like money problems with old mythology tend to balance seriousness and lightness in a way that keeps me interested for the whole run.

I kind of liked “Bride of the Century” because who wouldn't get suspicious about a so-called “curse”. If people are “conveniently dying” so that another can step in and take their place, there's got to be an evil human involved. Also, the look-alike girl was completely innocent, and the people around her were conniving and scheming and could care less about what happened to her. I hate when ruthless people trap innocents in their power struggles.

The best scene was when the lady got thrown off the building, and the water god saved her. If someone wrapped a protective water bubble shield around me and stopped me from falling to my death, I think they proved they're a water god. LOL.

To me, the most realistic and relatable part of this K-drama was the mother-in-laws FROM HELL!!
