Were you aware that Disney+ was planning a second season of their Marvel Studios Hollywood satire Wonder Man? You weren’t aware? Well, you missed nothing then…Disney just axed that second […]

I was pretty bummed to hear about Wonder Man getting the axe. The concept had so much potential for satire and some clever commentary on Hollywood. Plus, it could've opened up more opportunities for the character in the wider MCU. I mean, with all the superhero content out there, it felt like there was room for something a bit different. Did anyone else feel like the show was setting up something interesting with Simon Williams? What do you think it missed that made it not stick with audiences?

Man this doesn't surprise me at all. The ending literally closed every door for a season two. Simon gave up the whole Hollywood dream to save Trevor, so where do you even go from there? Either they drag him through hiding as a fugitive which changes the whole tone, or they undo everything he sacrificed which feels cheap. Sometimes a story just says what it needs to say in one season and that's fine. I'd rather have this than a forced second season that ruins what worked.

Wait so they announced a season 2 and never even started writing it? That is wild to me lol. Like how do you renew a show and not even build a writers room. Feels like a decision made by people who never watched the finale.

I actually think this is the right call even though it stings. The finale worked because it had weight, Simon actually paid a price. If they made season two they would have to either cheapen that sacrifice or turn it into a fugitive drama which loses the satire angle that made this show stand out in the first place. Not every MCU project needs to keep going forever just because Disney has the IP. Sometimes ending on a strong note is better than stretching thin.

Kinda annoyed since I was hoping to see how Simon and Trevor deal with being on the run together, that could have been fun actually. Different vibe but still interesting imo.

The fact that Yahya himself said there were no conversations tells you everything, this was never real to begin with, just a hype announcement with nothing behind it. Companies do this a lot now.

Rip Wonder Man, you deserved better marketing honestly, most casual fans had zero idea this existed until the cancellation news dropped

I actually liked that they tried something different with Wonder Man. Not every Marvel show needs a huge world-ending story. A Hollywood setting was a nice change. If the ending really pushed Simon away from that life, then I can understand why a second season would be difficult. At the same time, announcing another season before having any real plan sounds strange. I would rather they end it at one season than make something that goes against the original ending. At least the story sounds complete instead of getting dragged out.

I can't even be surprised anymore. Marvel has been changing plans so often that I wait until filming starts before believing anything. Announcing a second season without writers or even talking to the lead actor feels rushed. Maybe they were testing the waters and changed their minds later. It saves money, but it also makes the whole situation look messy.

I feel bad for the fans who were excited after hearing there would be another season. Getting your hopes up and then finding out nothing was really happening must be disappointing. At least it happened before production started instead of getting canceled halfway through filming. That probably would have been even worse.

I would have been interested to see how Simon and Trevor handled life after the ending, but I also agree that it would become a completely different kind of show. The Hollywood satire sounded like the main idea, and taking that away changes everything. If the only way to continue is to turn it into another superhero chase story, then maybe ending it here is the smarter move.
