In real life (at least where I grew up), lots of kids are born out of wedlock or are the result of an adulterous relationship, and it's the child who gets treated like dirt. That's why I am interested in seeing the main character find her place in the world and carve out her path to happiness. As for her biological parents? I couldn't care less what happened to them.
