The irony of the storyline is that the family expert on relationships can tell others to “prescribe love,” but the family she comes from doesn't follow the advice. Isn't that how life is? You can always tell others what they're doing wrong and how to fix it. But you're having the same problems, and you don't even follow your own advice. When it comes to you and your own family, it takes extra work. I can see how they can extend the plot.
