Oh man, I love the idea of "Choose Your Own Adventure" in graphic novel form! It’s like flipping through pages of a comic where you get to dictate the story, so cool! Oni Press always has creative stuff, so I can’t wait to see how they pull it off. Definitely want to check out that preview!

I used to read Choose Your Own Adventure books in school, so this actually interests me more than I expected. Turning it into a graphic novel makes sense because space stories work better when you can actually see the planets and creatures. I also like that they are trying to keep the second person style instead of changing everything into a normal comic. That part sounds difficult to do without making it awkward. The POV idea sounds creative. I am curious how many paths they kept from the original book because those old CYOA stories usually had a lot of weird endings. The dinosaur part already sounds fun. I might check this out even though I normally don’t buy graphic novels anymore.

I think this format fits Choose Your Own Adventure way more than a movie does. A movie would probably remove all the choices and make it feel normal. At least with a graphic novel they can still play around with perspective and branching decisions. Also space settings are perfect for comic art because artists can go crazy with colors and designs. Dani Bolinho seems like a good choice from the preview pages. The pages actually look clean and easy to follow. Some modern comics put too much text everywhere and it becomes tiring to read. This one looks more simple in a good way.

Honestly I miss when kids books were strange and experimental like this. Back then you could randomly die in lava after one bad choice and the book just moved on. Modern stuff sometimes feels too safe. I hope they keep that energy in this version and don’t try to make every path nice and heroic. The black hole and alien choices already sound like the kind of thing where one wrong decision ruins everything. That was the fun part. You felt like your choices actually mattered even if the book was short.

The second person explanation was actually useful because a lot of people confuse it with gaming terms now. I have seen arguments online where people think “first person” only means camera angle because of video games. In books it works differently. Making the reader the main character is harder than people think because the writing can become repetitive very fast. I wonder how the comic handles that without constantly saying “you” every page. It sounds like the art direction is doing most of the work there.

I never read Space And Beyond before, but the concept sounds fun. Choosing your birth planet already makes it feel bigger than the old CYOA books I remember. Usually those stories started immediately with danger. This sounds more like a full sci-fi setting with lore behind it. I also like that they included time travel and dinosaurs because old sci-fi stories always mixed random ideas together and somehow it worked. I would rather read something imaginative like this than another dark reboot comic where everybody looks angry all the time.

The preview art surprised me. I expected something more retro looking because of the original book, but this looks modern without losing the old sci-fi feeling. I think younger readers could get into this easily. My nephew likes graphic novels more than regular books, so something interactive like this could actually get him interested in reading longer stories. I know people joke that comics are not “real reading” but honestly if it gets kids interested in stories and imagination, that is already a good thing.

This sounds way more interesting than another superhero event comic. I am serious. At least this has actual decision making and weird concepts instead of ten variants of the same character punching each other again. The old Choose Your Own Adventure books had simple writing, but they made you think about consequences. Sometimes the smartest sounding option was the worst one. I think that is why people still remember them. The graphic novel idea could work really well if they keep that unpredictable feeling instead of making the story too linear.
