Crunchyroll Kicks Off Ani-May With $1.99 Premium Plans

I love that Crunchyroll is kicking off Ani-May with such an exciting promotion! At $1.99 for premium plans, it's a steal. This feels like the perfect time to catch up on all those series from last season that I couldn't keep up with, like "Jujutsu Kaisen" and "Attack on Titan."

I'm curious to see what premieres they have lined up this month! Any series you’re definitely planning to check out or rewatch? I’ve been eyeing “My Dress-Up Darling” for another go. There's just something about the character dynamics in that one that really nails it for me.

I stopped subscribing to Crunchyroll a while ago because the monthly cost slowly stopped feeling worth it for me, especially when I was only watching a couple shows every season. But this deal is actually tempting. $1.99 for three months is cheap enough that I would not even overthink it. I’m honestly more surprised they included returning subscribers too because most companies only care about new users. That part makes the promotion feel less annoying. I also think Crunchyroll probably realized people are getting tired of subscription prices constantly increasing everywhere. Streaming services keep adding more costs while splitting content around different platforms. At least this feels like a decent attempt to pull people back in. I might actually renew just to catch up on some series I skipped this year because at this price, it feels reasonable again.

I’m glad they finally focused on the actual subscription instead of pretending store coupons are the main attraction. Most people care about watching anime, not buying expensive figures every month. The lower pricing makes way more sense as a promotion because it benefits almost everyone. I also think allowing returning subscribers is the best part here. A lot of former users probably canceled because they were not watching enough anime regularly. This gives them an easy reason to come back without feeling punished for unsubscribing before. Personally I think the Fan plan is the better value unless somebody really needs multiple screens. The Game Vault still feels kind of random to me because I barely hear anyone talk about Crunchyroll games. Maybe some people use it a lot, but it has never been the reason I considered upgrading.

The funny thing is this promotion probably works better than half the anime awards stuff they push every year. Most regular viewers just want affordable access to shows. That’s it. I like anime, but I’m not trying to turn every hobby into a luxury expense. The Fan tier honestly sounds perfect for most people unless you have roommates or family members sharing the account. I’m also curious if other anime services respond with discounts too because competition usually starts these little price battles. Hidive especially might need to react since they already have a smaller catalog. Either way, this is probably the first Crunchyroll promotion in a while where I immediately thought, “okay, that’s actually useful.” Usually I just ignore these seasonal campaigns completely.
