Capcom Please make an actual faithful Resident evil movie!

The disconnect between the Resident Evil games and the films has been frustrating for fans. I totally agree that Capcom could do so much more with a faithful adaptation. The lore is rich with complex characters and chilling storylines that just get overlooked. It feels like the filmmakers are more interested in creating action spectacles rather than sticking to the horror elements that made the games so iconic.

With the recent success of horror adaptations like The Last of Us, there's definitely a precedent for doing it right. I’m hoping they take a hint from that and lean into the survival horror aspect if they plan to make a new movie next week. What do you think the best approach would be to capture that essence?
 
I agree with the main point here. I have watched most of the Resident Evil movies, and I always feel like I am watching something else with the same name. The games have a clear structure. There is fear, limited resources, and characters who are not always in control. In the movies, everything becomes action very fast. I did not like how the main characters from the games were pushed aside. When I see Leon or Jill, I expect them to matter, not just stand behind someone else. Alice feels too strong all the time, and that removes tension for me. I think a good adaptation should follow at least one game closely, maybe the first one in the mansion. Slow pacing, mystery, and survival would work better. I am not asking for a perfect copy, but I want to recognize the story. Right now, I only recognize names and monsters, not the actual experience.

That choice creates distance right away. Fans are not asking for a new lead. The demand has always been clear. People want to see Chris, Jill, Leon, Claire, Ada Wong, and the rest in live action, with proper focus on them. Those characters already carry strong stories and identity. There is no need to replace them or push them aside. Keeping things simple would actually work better. Follow the characters fans already care about and build the movie around them instead of adding something unnecessary.
 
Expectations keep clashing with what is delivered. Fans want something closer to the games, but the films avoid that path. Saying they respect the “spirit” is not enough. The story itself needs attention. Until that changes, the same complaints will continue.
 
Capcom shares the blame here. These ideas get approved, so it is not just on the directors. After so many attempts, the pattern is clear. Wesker in the series is a good example of a character losing his core traits. Changes should add depth, not remove what made the character strong.
 
I do not hate Alice as a concept, but I agree she became a problem. She is too strong, and nothing feels dangerous around her. Resident Evil works best when characters are vulnerable. When you feel like anyone can fail, the tension increases. With Alice, I never feel that risk. That makes the story less engaging. I would prefer a group dynamic where each character has a role and weakness. That is how the games feel. I also think the article is right that using the name without the identity is the main issue. You can change details, but if the core feeling is gone, then it is not really Resident Evil anymore.
 
At this point, I think expectations are the real issue. Fans want something close to the games, but the films keep going in a different direction. That gap creates constant disappointment. I believe a faithful adaptation would actually do well if done properly. The source material is already strong. There is no need to rebuild it. I agree that “spirit” is not enough. Many projects claim they understand the feeling, but then they avoid the actual story. That does not work for me. I will still watch the new movie, but I am careful with my expectations now. I want to see real commitment this time, not another version that only borrows names and visuals.
