The UnNatural Hunter: A Dual Homebrew For Dual Consoles

The concept behind The UnNatural Hunter sounds intriguing, especially given the father-son collaboration aspect. There’s something special about homebrew games that brings a unique creativity to the table, often pushing the boundaries of what’s possible on older hardware. It’s interesting to think about how they’re blending 8-bit aesthetics with contemporary game design sensibilities.

If they’re focusing on exploration and system interactions, it could be a rewarding experience for players who enjoy delving into mechanics, similar to what we see in classics like Castlevania or even Metroid. I’m curious about how they plan to utilize the limitations of 8-bit graphics while still making something engaging. Have they mentioned any specific gameplay mechanics or inspirations that stand out?

I like that they did not just make one version but went all in with a platformer and a full Zapper shooter on separate carts. Both available for NES and Famicom. The story about the hunter facing zombies, vampires, werewolves, ghosts and ancient darkness in Gehenna gives clear level themes. Music comes from R-SEN Productions who have scored plenty of other NES homebrews so expect good chiptunes. A father and son team working on 8-bit games together is cool. The Zapper version is Kickstarter exclusive so do not miss it before May 3.

This game has two versions? One regular platformer and one that uses the Zapper. Both come on their own carts and they made them for Famicom and NES too. The paranormal hunter story takes you through different scary locations with different monsters each time. I think the whispering ghosts in the cemetery part sounds especially creepy. R-SEN Productions handling the music is good news because their chiptunes usually match the mood well.
