New DC Book Teaches Kids Anyone Can Be Super

Eh, sounds a little preachy to me. “Anyone can be a superhero” is nice on paper, but kids already know helpers are good people. Do we really need to call them superheroes to make the point? I’d rather my nephew read about actual Superman saving the day and then talk about how being nice is important too. Still, the art might be pretty.

Simple and direct, I like it. No big battles or world-ending threats, just a kid noticing the good people around her. That’s powerful for young readers. Shows heroism doesn’t need a costume. DC is smart to push these kinds of stories for the 5-7 crowd. I’ll probably buy it as a gift for my neighbor’s daughter.

Cute concept. Mariam looking at her neighborhood and realizing the people around her are already superheroes is sweet. My daughter is five and she loves pointing out helpers like garbage collectors or nurses. This book will probably make her feel proud of the people she sees every day. I just hope the art is colorful and fun enough to hold her attention.
