If there’s a general rule with Warner Bros CEO David Zaslav, it’s that you should never get him wet or feed him after midnight. He confirmed during an earnings call this morning that he’s pressing forward with Gremlins 3, a film that’s been rumored for decades but has never gotten off the ground. Looks like it’s never been closer to happening until now. Gremlins 3 has never had a RELEASE DATE before: WB thinks they can get it out November 19, 2027. Chris Columbus, who created the concept, will return to produce and direct with Steven Spielberg lording over as executive producer. Joe Dante, who directed the first film and wrote / directed the second, as well as the recent Gremlins cartoon, was not mentioned. As someone whose favorite movie of all time is Gremlins 2, you’d think I’d be over the moon right now. Well, I’m not. I’m very very under the moon. And this is why: my favorite film is Gremlins 2. NOT the original. And what they’re proposing here could be much more like the original than the sequel.
