Grace Ashcroft Takes Center Stage in Resident Evil: Requiem, Ending Leon Kennedy Rumors The Resident Evil rumor mill has been running nonstop for over a year, and at the heart of it was one question: would Leon S. Kennedy return as the protagonist in the next mainline entry? With Capcom’s official reveal of Resident Evil: Requiem, those rumors have finally been put to rest — and replaced by something far more interesting. Meet Grace Ashcroft: the new face of survival horror. A Legacy of Fear What makes Grace Ashcroft such a fascinating debut isn’t just her inexperience or vulnerability — it’s her bloodline. Grace is the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft, a playable character from the cult-favorite Resident Evil Outbreak, making her the first second-generation protagonist descended from a non-mainline game. Unlike characters like Sherry Birkin, Jake Muller, or Rose Winters — whose parents appeared in core titles — Grace’s connection is to the lesser-known but beloved Outbreak spin-off. That detail alone has sent longtime fans into a frenzy. Fan-run Outbreak servers — maintained for years via emulation after Capcom’s official servers shut down — are seeing a surge in new players. Wiki searches for both Alyssa and Grace Ashcroft have […]

I think Capcom made the right call here. We've had decades of overpowered protagonists. Leon was cool, but you can only watch someone shoot monsters in the face without blinking for so long before it gets stale. Grace being scared of a bucket is not a weakness — it’s the point. That’s how I felt in the original mansion back in 1996. I want that again. I want to feel like I could die around the next corner. And it’s refreshing to see a new character without military training or superpowers. It reminds me why I started playing these games. Grace is going to get a lot of hate from people who just want another zombie action movie, but she represents real horror — not just gunplay.

I think the bucket moment was kind of funny, but also realistic. If I heard a loud crash in a dark hallway, I’d freak out too. Grace looks like someone I’d actually be — not some trained mercenary with a six-pack. I'm tired of seeing Resident Evil characters react like they’ve seen it all. I liked Rose Winters for the same reason. She was confused and scared and vulnerable. Grace seems even more normal than her. I like that.

It’s a bold shift. I’ll give Capcom credit. But I'm not 100% sold yet. Grace looks like a placeholder character — someone you put in just to shake up the formula. Alyssa Ashcroft wasn’t exactly iconic, so basing an entire legacy on her feels like grasping. Still, I’ll give it a try because the setting looks moody and dark again. I just hope Grace gets development and doesn’t spend the whole game crying over shadows and loud noises. If you’re scared all the time, eventually it just becomes annoying.

This is honestly such a beautiful choice. Grace isn’t perfect. She’s not even close. But that’s why she’s powerful. A woman in fear doesn’t mean a woman is weak. It means she’s human. The fact that she’s Alyssa’s daughter adds another layer. Outbreak deserved more love. Grace is bringing that era back into the spotlight, and I’m here for it. This is the kind of character horror needs right now. Not another gun-toting savior. A broken person in a broken world.

Leon fans are spoiled brats. I understand Leon is an important character to many, but this series cannot grow if it only reuses the same hero over and over. I want to see new stories and new faces. Grace Ashcroft offers a fresh perspective and real vulnerability—something Leon has never shown. Every time Grace becomes the focus, some fans complain that she is not a perfect soldier who never feels fear. Those fans treat Leon like a product they own, not a character in a shared world. Resident Evil means survival and horror, not endless fan service. If you only play to see Leon shoot monsters, you are missing the point. Fear is personal and unpredictable, and Grace’s reactions make the game feel alive again. I respect Leon’s history, but I also respect Capcom’s right to explore new heroes. It is time for spoiled Leon fans to let go and support the series’ evolution.

I’m so tired of hearing the same whining from Leon fans every time he’s not the main character. We get it — you like his hair, his jacket, and his one-liners. But guess what? Resident Evil 7 and Village didn’t have him, and those games were huge hits. You don’t need Leon to make a good Resident Evil game. In fact, at this point, he’s starting to feel more like a meme than a real character. He doesn’t react to anything, he’s untouchable, and it’s boring. Horror isn’t fun when your main guy acts like he’s in a fashion shoot while shooting mutants. Grace being scared and overwhelmed is a return to what made this series great — actual fear. If you only play RE for Leon, then maybe you’re not a real fan of the genre. You just want to see your favorite action doll strike a pose. Resident Evil is more than one character. Let someone else have the spotlight.

Leon is 51. Let that sink in. The man has been fighting bioterrorism since the ‘90s. At some point, you gotta hang up the gun and start living. I’d rather see Leon retired somewhere peaceful, maybe finally raising a couple of kids with Ada — assuming they ever figured out how to be honest with each other. His story’s done. We’ve seen him shoot, stab, and save the world more times than I can count. Bringing him back just so he can say another cheesy line while dodging mutants feels unnecessary. Grace deserves the spotlight now, and Leon deserves to be at home, maybe grilling or doing school drop-offs, not dodging acid spit. Let the man rest.

I’m curious more than excited. The trailer gave me anxiety, in a good way. I think the switch between first- and third-person views is a smart idea. Some players want immersion, others want the classic feel. Grace being emotional isn’t a flaw. As an artist, I think her expressions and body language show how far animation has come. We used to play with emotionless puppets. Now we get characters who visibly process fear. That’s progress.

Grace being a mess is kind of the point, right? Like, imagine trying to do your desk job on a Tuesday, then finding yourself in a haunted lab full of mold zombies. She’s us. The regular people. Not everyone has a knife holster stitched to their thigh. I think they’re doing something smart here. Besides, fear sells better when the player doesn’t feel invincible. I want to be scared again. Let Grace scream at the damn bucket. It works.
