Steady Pulse – Chapter 36 of Dead by Daylight Dead by Daylight returns with its 36th chapter, Steady Pulse, now available in the Public Test Build (PTB) for select streamers. For those unfamiliar, the PTB allows early access to upcoming content, often given to Fog Whisperers—trusted content creators chosen to test and showcase the chapter before its official launch. Coming hot off the heels of the Tokyo Ghoul Chapter, which introduced a new Killer, Kaneki, and themed cosmetics like the Rize legendary skin, this chapter takes a different route. Steady Pulse is a Survivor-only release, featuring a brand-new character: Orela Rose. Orela is an EMT by profession, known for her calm presence and unwavering dedication. Her story is rooted in the loss of her close friend, Emily, who died in a haunted house accident. Inspired by Emily’s memory, Orela left her academic path to pursue emergency medical work, quickly realizing she had a gift for bringing people comfort during their darkest moments. A heroic act helped her and Emily’s dream—a horror-themed restaurant called Screams in the Dark—become a reality. Yet, no matter how far she came, Orela felt the pull to keep helping others. Eventually, that calling led her straight […]

Freddy Krueger being canonically bisexual always felt strange, not because he’s bi, but because… why him? That’s like making a public announcement that your bisexual uncle is also a nightmare demon who hunts children in their dreams. I half expect Chris Hansen to pop out and say, ‘Freddy, why don’t you have a seat over there?’”

“It’s nice that we finally have someone like Orela, whose entire personality isn’t just ‘I’m trans.’ She’s a person first, with goals, regrets, and reasons for what she does. That’s the kind of character the game needed—not someone added for headlines, but someone who feels real.

I’m honestly tired of these Survivor-only or Killer-only chapters. It always feels like we’re getting half a package. No new map, no new environment to explore—just one character and a few perks. It doesn’t feel worth the money, especially when the gameplay loop stays exactly the same. I get that not every chapter can be a big crossover or a double release, but when there’s no Killer and no map, it just feels bare bones. Like, cool, Orela seems well written, but as a full chapter? It’s underwhelming. At most this feels like something that should be added in a mid-chapter update, not sold as full content.

Finally, an LGBTQ character who isn’t a Killer. That alone is a big step. It always felt weird how the only openly queer characters we had before were either murderers or had some messed-up story attached to them. Like, yeah, representation exists—but not in a good light. With Orela, it finally feels different. She’s not violent, not twisted, not tragic just because she’s trans. She’s a Survivor who helps people, has a clear purpose, and her identity is just part of who she is, not the main focus. This is the kind of character the game has needed for a long time.

She sounds solid. Not overpowered, not boring. Good healing, smart teamwork tools. I like that. I don’t care much about the lore, but if it makes some people happy, cool. It’s better when new characters aren’t just cosmetic filler.

I hope her perks work in solo queue too, not just with coordinated friends. That’s the real test. If she helps in random lobbies, then she’s worth unlocking.

As a Killer main, I gotta ask—is it transphobic if I tunnel Orela? Because I promise, it’s not personal. I see all Survivors the same: targets. I’m just bad at teamwork, so I play Killer to avoid it altogether. Everyone gets hooked equally in this economy. If you’re on my screen, you’re going on the hook—doesn’t matter who you are. Equal opportunity brutality.

I played the PTB and honestly, Orela doesn’t seem like a bad character at all. Her perks are useful without feeling broken, and she fits well into a support role. What really stood out to me though was her voice. The actress did a great job—she sounds like a real person, not a caricature or over-the-top version of what someone thinks a trans woman should sound like. It feels natural and grounded. She actually reminds me of someone I could meet in real life, which makes her a lot easier to connect with. The way she talks during matches has this calm, steady vibe that fits her backstory as an EMT. It’s a nice change from some of the more exaggerated voice lines other characters have. Definitely feels like Behaviour put some real thought and care into her.

I play Killer 90% of the time, so new Survivors don’t really change how I play. But I respect the effort with Orela. At least her perks don’t sound like a pain to deal with as Killer. No stealth spam or second chances, just healing and team play. That’s fair.

Her aura-reading perk from lockers might get annoying in chases, but only if people learn how to use it well. Most won’t. So I’m not worried.

Her backstory? Not my thing, but I get why people like it. She’s got more personality than most of the cast. And yeah, it’s cool she’s trans and it’s not treated like a twist or joke. That’s handled better than before.

As long as she doesn’t mess with my match flow, I’m cool with it.

Orela sounds cool, but I’ll wait and see how useful her perks actually are. Healers are fine, but if she doesn’t bring value in chases or slowdown, she might be more niche than people think. Her protection hit perk could be strong if it combos with Borrowed Time or Off the Record. But I’m not too sure about the whole “risk life and limb” part unless it comes with real payoff. Most solo queue teammates don’t play as a team, so if she relies on coordination, that might hurt her. The Archives update sounds good though. Finally, no more switching challenges mid-game. I hated that system, so I’ll take any change that makes progress smoother.
