Today, Marvel made the announcement that for the first time since (looks at watch) 2022, they plan to relaunch The Amazing Spider-Man with another #1 issue. Since this happens so frequently that it’s hardly news anymore, why are we reporting it? Because relaunches usually mean new writers, and in this case it definitely does, which means….NO MORE ZEB WELLS! Wells has been poison on the book since he started, and there’s reason to hope for a somewhat better future for ASM in the hands of Joe Kelly, the new writer. Kelly is the guest writer of the comic’s current arc, “8 Deaths Of Spider-Man,” and Marvel must have liked it enough to keep him on full-time. Artists Pepe Larraz and John Romita Jr. will keep things looking lively and so will colorist Marte Gracia. Marvel editor Nick Lowe will oversee it all. “Even though this is a new #1, I don’t think of it as a ‘restart’ per se,” Kelly said to the website Polygon. “I’m writing the next chapter of the story of one the world’s greatest characters, lucky enough to follow in the footsteps of the folks before me. Another #1 for Spider-Man? Ugh, here we go again. Don't get me wrong, I love Spidey, but these relaunches are getting out of hand. At least there's a new writer! Zeb Wells... yeah, not a huge fan. Hopefully, Joe Kelly can bring back some of the magic. "8 Deaths of Spider-Man" was pretty good, so that's promising. John Romita Jr. on art? Now that's awesome, his Spidey is classic! New chapter for Peter, sounds good to me. Exploring his younger days? Interesting, never seen that before. But come on, Marvel, still clinging to One More Day? Seriously? Ultimate Spider-Man outselling ASM? Ouch. Maybe this relaunch will actually do something different. Maybe they'll finally learn their lesson. A whole new generation of readers might not even know about One More Day! Here's hoping, Spidey deserves better.

ust another flavor of the month until they reboot again. Zeb Wells wasn't great, but who knows, maybe this Joe Kelly guy can do something interesting. John Romita Jr. is a legend, though, gotta give them credit for that. Exploring Peter's youth? Been there, done that. Honestly, Marvel needs to take some serious risks with Spidey, not just rehash the same old stories. Clinging to One More Day? Pathetic. Ultimate Spider-Man outselling ASM? Wake up call, Marvel! Fans want something new, something that respects the character's history. This relaunch just feels like another desperate attempt to recapture past glory.

Huh, Spider-Man's getting another relaunch? Didn't they just do this a couple of years ago?
