Historical Korean movies often slip under the radar because many of the streaming platforms put most of their promotional efforts toward K-drama series and don’t have many of the films in their database. So when you find an excellent historical film to watch, it’s like finding hidden treasure. I have yet to see one of these types of movies that doesn’t have powerhouse actors and actresses playing their roles as if they were actually in that place, at that time. “12.12: The Day” is a 2023 Korean film about events that took place December 1979 after the assassination of South Korea’s president. There was a fight over who would occupy the vacated seat of power. Military officers carried out a coup and one of their leaders formally assumed the presidency the next year.
