“My Father is Strange” is a 2017 Korean drama series, with 52 episodes, and can be categorized as Idol Drama, Family and Kids, Romance and Comedy (Rom-Com). It was recommended by KOCOWA+ (KOCOWA stands for Korean Content Wave) as a hidden gem and is streaming on Viki, a partner platform. SUMMARY: “My Father is Strange”, is a wonderful warm-hearted story about life giving you lemons and you somehow manage to turn them into tangerines. (In Korean culture and history, tangerines are a beloved fruit in the country and they have a special place often being used in ancestral rites and to entertain honored guests. Over the years, tangerines became associated with luxury in Korea.) “My Father is Strange” is a relatable exploration of family ties and the true meaning of home. ♦ I am a Strange Father But Will Do Right by My Family “My Father is Strange” is about the lives of the Ahn family. Lee Yoon-seok could have had a great future in the sports world if he had not been convicted and sent to prison for a crime he didn’t commit. Life had been unfair. Family, romance, comedy – all rolled into one? Plus, a slow burn with a forbidden love angle? Sign me up! I gotta admit, the whole "father's a criminal" thing throws me off a bit, but I'm willing to overlook it for some good ol' K-drama fluff.

Kim Hae-Sook?! Yasss! That woman can play ANY role and nail it. Plus, a slice-of-life family drama? My heartstrings are already preparing to be yanked in all directions. This "strange father" business sounds like a recipe for major drama, and I am HERE FOR IT.

The mention of tangerines in Korean culture is fascinating. It adds a unique depth to the story, connecting the characters to their cultural heritage and traditions. I wonder how the tangerine symbolism will play out throughout the drama, especially in relation to the family's dynamics and the concept of home. The father's imprisonment and the subsequent identity switch could provide a rich psychological landscape for the characters. I'm curious to see how the drama delves into the emotional complexities of the characters and the ways in which their past experiences shape their present lives.

I appreciate the drama's focus on strong female characters. The mother's unwavering support for her husband and her determination to protect her family is inspiring. I'm also curious to see how the female characters navigate the patriarchal societal norms and expectations.

I'm excited to see Lee Joon in a more mature role. His previous work in idol dramas has showcased his talent, and I'm curious to see how he tackles a more complex character in this drama

52 episodes? Ugh, I wish I had that kind of time! Maybe I can catch it in snippets while I'm commuting or doing chores.

The mention of Kim Young-Chul's previous role in "The Princess' Man" is intriguing. His ability to portray both villainous and sympathetic characters is impressive. I wonder how his experience in historical dramas will influence his performance in this contemporary drama.

I'm curious to see how the drama will address these issues and explore the father's journey to seek justice.

When I see Kim Hae-Sook, not only am I impressed with the different characters she can play but she can change up her look in so many different ways too. Do they give lifetime achievement awards in Korea? She deserves one!
